October 17, 2018 - Jesus: Teacher and Saviour

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:1-5

What a great session we had on Wednesday evening! Welcome to Samantha, Sean and Jessie, and welcome back to Kevin. Thank you Ryan, for a very informative session about Jesus, as St. John says at the end of his Gospel: "But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”

There is so much to say about Jesus and as Ryan said on Wednesday evening, you will spend your lives discovering His teachings and His mercy in new ways. Thank you to Father Reddy for his insightful Gospel reflection and thank you to Sherry Chapman (who was speaking at the first communion meeting) for providing us with our snack.

This week we continued Ryan's presentation from last week. Anyone who missed this can download a copy of Ryan's presentation here. A copy of the handout is here.

Father Reddy spoke about differences between the way Catholic and Orthodox Christians make the Sign of the Cross over our bodies and I have added a link to a beautiful short video by a wonderful priest, Father Mike Schmitz who explains the Sign of the Cross in more detail. This is a 2 minute video and I highly recommend watching it:

This is a 6 minute video by Matthew Kelly, Catholic author and speaker on the topic of “Who is Jesus”. For those of you who have been at the last two sessions, this is mostly a recap, but it is always good to hear things said in a different way:.
